PAL Spotlight - February 2012
PAL/SAL/YAL Chapter of the Month
Oxnard PAL
The Oxnard Police Activities League is one of PAL's greatest sucess stories. Since its establishment in the early 1990's, the program has grown tremendously and has become the communities largest and most effective youth program. Blending a perfect partership between the Oxnard Parks & Recreation Department along with the Oxnard Police Department, the program currently runs programs throughout the community including a Skate Park. Oxnard is the unofficial "Boxing capitol" of California and the Oxnard PAL has hosted numerous California PAL, National PAL and even International Amateur Boxing competitions over the past years. Oxnard PAL has also established an outstanding youth soccer league that draws teams from throughout the Central Coast region as far away as Santa Barbara and Simi Valley.
To go along with its rich tradition in athletics, Oxnard PAL also has established many alternative programs such as dance, homework assistance and a Youth Leadership Coucil program. They also have a large outreach to the community with dedicated graffiti clean-up programs, community "Movie Nights" and many other very successful programs that have a positive impact on kids.
Oxnard PAL shows just how successful the PAL concept can be and is a model for other PAL chapters to follow.
